Why I’m Starting The Third Feed

I’m Dionne- an IBCLC, infant feeding specialist, and mum of three.

Over the years, I’ve walked alongside hundreds of families on their feeding journeys. I’ve listened to their stories, celebrated their milestones, and sat with them in the harder moments. I’ve shared my own breastfeeding experiences too, the raw, the real, the wonderful, and the challenging.

And now, here I am again, about to begin my third breastfeeding journey.

Even with all my training and professional experience, I know this will be different. Each baby brings their own rhythm, each body its own surprises. I’ve learned that feeding isn’t something you can ever truly master, it’s something you live, moment by moment.

So I wanted to create The Third Feed- a space where I can share this journey in real time: the first latches, the middle-of-the-night feeds, the tiny milestones, the tricky patches, and the thoughts that come along the way.

This isn’t a polished, textbook guide. It’s an honest diary. A mixture of professional insight and lived reality.

As an advocate for the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative, everything I share here will be grounded in its principles, evidence-based, free from commercial influence, and focused on protecting, promoting, and supporting breastfeeding. In a world overflowing with products, opinions, and quick fixes, I want The Third Feed to feel like a calm, trustworthy voice you can return to.

Whether you’re a new parent, a fellow breastfeeding supporter, or simply someone curious about what it’s like behind the scenes of an IBCLC’s own journey, you’re welcome here 🫶🏻
